RESOURCES, WEBSITES, COMPUTER PROGRAMS & SPREADSHEETS

Why re-invent the wheel, right? Since some of us may not have access to data, programs or reference link like others who have been in the business over the years, I decided to make my list and then if you find a site, program or reference that you feel is beneficial to the forensic meteorologist, drop us a line at [email protected] and well add it to the next revision and credit you for the source!

Resources:

For immediate access to weather logs, try your local National Weather Service Office (NWS) or go online to their website: http://www.crh.noaa.gov/ and find the Climate section. They should have a link to weather over the past year within their CWA.

Daily Weather Maps: Either by subscription or using the online service, it’s a way to review past weather in graphic/map format. See http://www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/dwm/dwm.shtml for information about this service.

NCDC (National Climactic Data Center): A complete source on all types of weather information, records, graphs, maps, radar, satellite and much more: http://lwf.ncdc.noaa.gov/oa/ncdc.html

The Climate Visualization system is an interactive graphing tool designed to allow visual browsing of the data available on-line. CLIMVIS simply requires the user to step through the data and graphing feature selection process to visually browse the data. http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/oa/climate/onlineprod/dro...

Plymouth State Weather Center is site where you can build Contoured 1950-2003 NCEP/NCAR Reanalysis Upper Air Maps. http://vortex.plymouth.edu/reanal-u.html

You can never have enough resource links: http://www.refdesk.com/weath1.html

This Resources section offers an area where those with specific skills or knowledge can download information.
